Lucia Rosenast is a multidisciplinary artist born in Seattle Washington. She Graduated from The Mountain School in 2018 and went on to attend Bennington College, graduating in 2023. Lucia is currently studying under Kate Smith at The Weaver's Croft, formerly the Marshfield School of Weaving. At the Weaver's Croft Lucia is studying historic handweaving on early 18th century handlooms.
Apart from her weaving study, Lucia's personal body of work attempts to make sense of memory, sensory experiences in the wilderness, as well as cultural forms like souvenirs and miniaturization.
Materially, she continually returns to the sealed, saved, and collected items composing her past. These objects of memory, once a compulsion, now are the source of her making. She is interested in organizing and deconstructing these objects as a means to understand the story of a stain, the validity of a photograph, or simply the material evidence of her trace.
Lucia's practice centers Shibori dying techniques, specifically: Itajime and Nui, as well as recent study of Catherine Ellis's Woven Shibori. Coupled with Shibori, Lucia practices Cynotype printing enjoying the nexus between indigo and cyan; finding moments of mimicry and unity between a photographic and a handwork process.
